Hey!

Posted on Sunday, February 26th, 2006

Well, I haven’t made any blog posts lately, mainly because not much stuff has been happenning lately….

I’ve been watching IT Crowd episodes lately. If you want to see them, look here.

I’ve also been reading a bunch of Garry’s Mod comics. This forum post has links to my favoruites.

School’s OK… Haven’t had much homework…

I’ll make another post when something noteworthy happens…

New Web site

Posted on Saturday, February 18th, 2006

Yes, I have designed yet another web site for the Stephen Gentle Dot Com homepage. You can see the beta here. It is a lot nicer looking already, but right now there is only one page. It also validates as XHTML 1.0 Strict, which is great. The previous page had heaps of errors in it…

Downtime

Posted on Wednesday, February 15th, 2006

We had a bit of downtime today, because we had to turn off the modem, and it had to reconnect, and then we were given a new IP address. The site was down until around 4:00 today, but I doubt anyone noticed, as we all (well at least most of us) would have been as school.

Cool videos

Posted on Tuesday, February 14th, 2006

Well, I haven’t posted for a while, so…. Here are some cool videos!

http://mrl.nyu.edu/~jhan/ftirtouch/ – This is a very cool touch screen that you can use multiple fingers. There are some very cool demos in the video.

This is a cool video of some guys climing up stuff and jumping from great heights and doing other dangerous stuff…. There’s some dialogue at the end, but its in russsian, so I’m not sure what they say….

Internet Explorer 7

Posted on Thursday, February 9th, 2006

I downloaded the second beta of IE7 today. It does have tabs and it does do transparent PNGs, but like its predecessor, it still messes up a lot of pages that use standards compliant CSS. It is messing up the page on which I am writing this entry on! The max-width property still hasn’t been implemented, and it displays input objects strangly. The user interface is very new and strange, especially for someone who has been using browsers with the standard interface since 1998… For example, it dosen’t have any menus at the top. On the toolbars, the first one only has back, foward, the address bar and a search box, plus small icons for refresh and stop that took a while for me to find, as being so small, they don’t really grab your attention. Then comes the tab bar, and at the end is the home, print etc.

The printing interface is excellent as you have a lot of control, but it can’t print styles, which makes it a lot less cool.

All in all, its better than IE6, but it still lacks a lot of features that firefox users have come to take for granted. Sorry Bill, but the cool printing feature and redesigned UI is not going to convince me to switch. Also, I’m sure that by the time that M$ releases the final version of IE7, there will be new versions of Firefox and Safari that match all the new features, and also add more.

Volleyball and various other sports

Posted on Thursday, February 9th, 2006

Well, yesterday we played interschool volleyball for the first time, at Corinda high school, and unfortunatly, we lost. But we wern’t really expecting to win, as we hadn’t done much practise.

At school in HPE we are doing badminton and we are going to have a round-robbin tornament on monday. I hope my partner (don’t know his name) and I win, and we have a pretty good chance, as most of the other groups aren’t great (and I’m so awesome :P )….

Thats all for now,

Now a subdomain

Posted on Sunday, February 5th, 2006

This blog now resides at blog.stephengentle.com, instead of stephengentle.com/blog. You could access it here before, but it just redirected you. Having the blog here means that I have less directories in the root of the website.

SoS Website

Posted on Friday, February 3rd, 2006

I’ve added a site on the server about SoS. You can see it here. I am still configuring it, and right now, there is no content whatsoever, except for one news post. I’ll update it soon. I am glad to finally have a site for SoS again, as I haven’t had one for almost a year now. I’ll notify you when I’m done.
