I just configured my wireless LAN card today with NDISwrapper. This means that I no longer have to run a cable up the stairs to my computer! I have not been able to get this card to work with the Beta Linux drivers, so I have instead had to use a windows driver and NDISwrapper instead. This is working perfectly, and I am using it right now to make this post.
Now I just have to get Samba working so I can print to our downstairs printer…

Well done mate. Compared to Wireless, SAMBA should be a breeze (as long as your printer is supported by CUPS).
Thanks. It’s an HP, and it worked with Knoppix, so I guess it is.
Hey Stephen,
I’ve just spent almost the entire Australia Day long weekend installing and messing with Kubuntu 7.10. Everything seems to work perfectly except for “talking” with a Windows XP machine which has the home network printer connected to it. So, if I can’t print, Kubuntu is useless to me. I get:
“SMB and NFS servers are not installed on this machine, to enable this module the servers must be installed.”
The rest of the system thinks that Samba is installed, but alas, printing through the Windows box and file sharing give the above message, and nothing happens.
Any luck at your place? Any suggestions? I’m not a geek, so any answers you might have should come as: “Step 1. Go to …”, etc.
All the forums I’ve searched over the weekend have been written by people who seem to assume an enormous amount of prior knowledge, none of which I have.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Cheers,
Steve
